My Fox Float RLCs on my 575 seem to be nearing the end - got corrosion and creaking in the crown. They've been perfect for what I need - fit, tune and forget. But servicing is a pain, as here in Oz they have to be sent to the importer for full servicing, and my budget is not what it was - apparently the children take priority now and Mrs PB doesn't consider the Yeti to be one of them.

So, what are the alternatives? I'm looking at Revelations, as a few riders here have these, not sure about Marzzochi or Manitou. Any others - current forks have 130mm travel and it all gets used.

The Rock Shocks are all pretty good, they always get good write ups in the MTB press, I have the Reba Race on my hardtail, no problems in over two years, not had a service yet either, obviously these are only 100mm. The other thought is, have you tried servicing the Fox ones yourself, not that difficult, great info on Mojo and Fox website, I did my Talas RLC myself a couple of months ago, very easy, no problems since.

If they are starting to creak at the crown that would suggest that the bonding on either the stantions or the steerer tube is starting to go, which would suggest it is new fork time. I would go for Relelations if I was you. (If I was me then I would go for Pikes and a 20mm bolt through from wheel but that would cost considerably more). Both the Revalations and Pikes are easy to service and work well. I had a set of '08 Revalations on an Ironhorse MK III for a year and they were awesome.

I've got Revelations on my Sub 5 and very pleased with them. They have managed to get some air in the rebound circuit over the last 12 months or so which is currently being sorted by my bike shop, but otherwise they've been faultless. Handles brilliantly with them on too - a marked improvement on the standard fit Maintous.

The rebound circuit is an open bath system on motion control forks so it does have air in it, fork oil shouldn't froth up though. Unless you mean that there has been a build up of air in the system which cracking the top cap would sort out. confused

It squelches, that's about the limit of my knowledge on the subject I'm afraid. smile

Guy at the shop said it was air in the system and they'd need to change the oil over.

That said I am slightly worried. The guy explained that I'd obviously gone to the wrong shop when I got the forks fitted as someone had overtightened the bolts in the stem and stripped a thread. He should have known that was tempting fate... I had to explain that the last people to touch the forks were their mechanics!

Sounds like you have either lost some oil or the oil has broken down and is frothing up. just need to take the compression cart out, tip the old oil out and put new stuf in them. Its strange they would do a stem up tight enough to strip the threads out. Theres being heavy handed but thats taking the piss!
