Just been knocked off my bike.
Discussion
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but it's car related.
Anyway, cycling along a road in Portsmouth doing about 20mph and a woman in an old Polo comes past me with her left indicator on. So I watched her slow right in front of me and decided to go around the outside of her. As I do this she slows right down and I hit her offside rear light and smack the deck. Fortunately I only have a few cuts and the bike seems ok.
But it was her reaction, which pissed me off. At first I thought she was going to drive off but seeing me looking at her she pulled over in the side road which she has now turned off into. Out gets a little Indian lady and says "Why did you try to overtake me?" I replied that I was going around her because she had pretty much cut me up etc... But she wouldn't back down.
So when I asked for her plate number (she was standing in front of it) she started to get all shirty and said "Yeah go on then, do what you want!" I left it at that and went home.
Just wondering if there's anything I can realistically do. I'm fine and the bike is too; just annoyed at her reaction really. Any advice?

She shouldn't cut you up. And you shouldn't ridea bike into the back of cars you know are slowing down...
I agree with what you are saying but I have done this quick maneuver before and seem to be able to judge these things, but she more or less stopped after already slowing down enough, that's what gave me nowhere to go! I'll just put it down to experience I guess! She shouldn't cut you up. And you shouldn't ride
So hang on, did you just try an over-ambitious overtake on her afterwards, or was the crash directly caused by her cutting you up?
Have to say I don't have a huge amount of sympathy if it was the former. I can understand it - I have a habbit of losing my temper when people cut me up on the bike too - but I think you take your chances if you decide to 'get even'.

Indians man - my wife is Indian and she's just about to start her driving lessons - let's hope the driving standards of 'the ol' country' are not genetic. She's also 5ft exactly which means she's going to do that 'sitting extremely close to the steering wheel' thing that my Nan used to do and which I would take the piss out of at every opportunity.
Couple of things you can do.
- Hold your line and emit a loud primal scream. Stops even numpties dead in their tracks. Makes you look a dick though.
- Hold a more primary position at junctions, particularly if its one that gets regular left turners.
- Err not ride into the back of braking cars.
To be fair, the actual impact sounds a bit like it was your fault Don't worry, I'm a cyclist too... And I've cycled smack into the back of a car because I was checking out a passing hottie
Anyway, when someone cuts you up, slap the side of their car with the palm of your hand, or thump on the side if it's a van.
They usually get the point. Apart from this one taxi driver who started swearing and shouting at me, despite the fact he'd actually just ground me along the kerb. fking tt.
