Afternoon all

i would just like to start with saying that i know its a tight budget but it the first bike im goin to buy with my cash and dont want to splash out just yet.

So will i be able to get a disk brake bike? Or is there really going to be a difference, only plan using it twice a week. Oh and as per the title i want a hard tail.

It can be new or second hand... not that my budget will allow for a new bike frown

Your help location a decent (for the price) bike would be appreciated.

Cheers all

c

go second hand and hunt for a specialized hardrock. they are good dependable bikes, quite heavy but robust and functional. they are alsoquite common so finding one shouldnt be too hard. they are not the most capable off road bikes and as such are bought new by those who enjoy light trails so you should be able to pick up one with minimal heavy duty use and in good nick.

try the classified and sections on bikeradar or ebay

The earlier Orange hardtails are really good.
The Evo 2 is an excellent bike and you should be able to buy a good
secondhand model with your budget.

my hardrock is of 2004 vintage and has been down some fairly serious trails and descents, I banjoed the forks once ( the polymer pinged apart), but got it fixed under warranty. I'm running crossmark tyres for xc and an xt rear mech.

It takes everything I can throw at it and more- it cost me £280 back then - great bike for the cash.

All i've done in 5 years is grease the wheel bearings - once, and replace the rear mech which got a little tired.

Id look at a specialized hard rock, although entry level it will take hell of a lot
