Focus Raven Pro V Specialized Stumpy expert carbon
Discussion
I can't decide, they have very similar specs, around £2500,the Specialized has a longer frame warrenty. Can't test ride either bike as the French are funny buggers and don't do test bikes. My other option is the aluminium framed Specialized which has the same spec as the carbon but alot cheaper.
this is a generic question and not aimed at anyone in particular, just a debate, but whats the point of carbon if your fundamental reqt is a lifetime guarantee. its hardly inspiring confidence in the product in my opinion. although a lifetime guarantee is nice to have in the back pocket, to me it suggests that its not the best quality out there and they are covering their backs.
who offers carbon frames and not also a lifetime guarantee?

I think regardless of what the frame is made out of a lifetime guarantee is a bonus that not all offer, afaik only Trek, Giant and Speciliazed offer it...I'm sure there are others, but they are in a minority. When the bike is THAT expensive its reassuring to have that backup, I'm not expecting to it break, but if it gets chipped or the structure gets compromised it gets replaced, simple as...
A compromised Ali/Steel frame will not be...yet will still be weaker...
a lifetime guarantee signifies extreme confidence in their prioduct to me, they can't afford to keep replacing busted badly made ones can they, so they must be sure of the quality.
Like Mini's TLC deal and Kia's 7 year guarantee, they offer such products due to the knowledge/confidence that neither will need significant work in the time frame its covered by...

i hear where you are coming from. the cost of a replacement frame for them is peanuts though and you are handing over enough cash at the initial purchase to cover a second frame and they still get their overheads, profit etc.
i would also be wary of "the small print" and whether it is as simple as "no quibble" replacements...
on a road bike, carbon makes total sense, for me though, if i upgrade from ally its to ti.

I dont know what planet you live on, but I'd like to mvoe their and start make bicycles.
Ridiculous!
hmm I'm not so sure its 'peanuts' and even if it was, they still couldn't afford to just keep replacing them ad-hoc either financially or in terms of their reputation. The manufacturer doesn't get 100% of the RRP, they get about 50% from what I understand, so it won't be anywhwere near enough to invest in a tech that means they keep having to replace.
I've read the small print on my my bike frame and I went through it with my LBS to make sure what and how its covered...whilst there are caveats, they're easy to understand with clear boundaries..
Having said all that...I'd love a Ti too... just for the money I had at the time and the offer I found..Ti with a relevant spec wasn't anywhere near...

until people stop thinking that carbon fibre frames are some kind of magic material, companies will still charge a fortune for anything with that weave appearance...
