Which bike for commuting?
Discussion
This week I've been going on to work on my bike, it's only about 3 miles, but my Halfords special bike is a bit past its best so I'm thinkin gof treating myself.
It'll mainly be used on roads but occasionally go off road.
What do you think to this one:

given its only a three mile commute it will be fine, not 100% ideal on the road as the forks and wheels will slow progress to a small extent (weight and resistance) but it wil lbe good fun, a nice upright position to aid visability and manoeuverability. off road it wil lbe fine, i had a hardrock pro for a few years and it took a lot more abuse than it was designed for....It'll mainly be used on roads but occasionally go off road.

I've got a 2006 Rockhopper as my commuter bike, running on Specialized nimbus road tyres.
Over 2000km later and I am glad that I got a mtb and front suspension (crumbling London roads can seem like forest trails at times!) and the road tyres keep me rolling along pretty quickly.
I'm not the lightest guy in the world at 16st and every time I've used road bikes for a while I spend a lot of time/money having the wheels trued.
A special metnion to the tyres - they must have done about 2500km now (they were on my old bike before this one), and they haven't had a single puncture in that time and they only look half worn!
