I have a medical condition known as 'boney arse syndrome'. After clocking up (probably less than) 10 miles on my new bike I am in a bit of discomfort. It is bearable but when I get back on the bike, my god it's uncomfortable.

Any recomendations for something a little plusher than a specialized standard issue?

I need something which is realistic. No massive 'gel seats' or sofas.

Get some shorts with padding in le arse. I bought some a couple of weeks ago and their great! About £30 from Wiggle and worth every penny.

Also, after more riding you'll stop getting the pains.

padded shorts and chamois cream are essential. look for shorts with gel inserts rather than just foam padding as they tend to be comfier. the dhb kit from wiggle gets excellent reviews and is good value for money.

dependant upon which part of your arse is in pain, also look at your saddle height and position, is it pointing up or down, this may have an effect on your comfort. is it too far forward/backwards on the rails, again this may be placing too much pressure on certain parts of le derriere.

It can also take time to 'firm' up your bum to get used to cycling too. Saddles are a personal preference. I find SDG very comfortable but a friend of mine hates them.

Best thing for sore arse syndrome is moer time on the saddle.

A good saddle is a help though, it has to fit ( support your arse bones) and not be too padded, too soft isnt good. I use a WTB saddle and its great.

Padded shorts are a help too.

Get yourself one of these! I had the touring model on a bike and was ace, although I've been cycling so long now my arse has lost all its nerves.

Might be selling it as well if anyone is tinterested.

The pain will last a week, at the most. Then it'll go away.

It really is as simple as that, although you should get padded shorts to protect your gonads, and blood circulation.

Ok enough of the "man up you whoose comments" this might be serious.... I've got a friend who it actually caused him to become impotent (or is it have an erectile disfunction these days)... anyway..... if you aren't relatively new to cycling then it might be worth looking at one of those saddles with the middle cut out (like a ladies) saddle.... it cured my mate.....

If you are new to cycling "man up and spend time in the saddle with padded shorts and cream"
