Thought it might be good to get a thread going on to post up where and when there are MTB groups riding around the country, both for locals or for people visiting the new areas.

I'll kick it off: We have a regular Wednesday night MTB ride on Cannock Chase which leaves the car park of Mammoth (in Milford, Stafford) at 6:30pm for about three hours of fairly fast, strenuous biking, but there's a good social element too. It attracts anything from a handfull to about twenty riders, depending on the time of year and weather.

Officialy it's the "Wednesday Night Single Speed Massive", but they allow 'geared queers' too, although if you ride out with them more then three times, excpect to come under pressure to come over to the dark (single speed) side!

More details here: http://pub1.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?use...

Any others out there? Perhaps the mods might give this a sticky?

Spoke to Gary a few times about this ride but just feel my fitness won't be upto three hours on my singlespeed.

Perhaps wait till the spring/summer and then have a go?

If you want to stick at it, people will muster back to an extent, but in any case, you can always do an hour or so and head back, it's not all or nothing! We do, admittedly ride pretty hard though - nowt that'd trouble Gary of course - and we hit the climbs hard, mainly out of impatience to get to the next downhill. It's fitness and technical skill. The pace on the single track will, occasionally, trip up even experienced riders on the darker nights where we're riding by LED light. So spring or summer is the time to start.
