New road bike pics !

Hi all,

as per my thread about what to buy, here it is, finally got it back to the flat! Hve not ridden it yet as I need to find some shoes I like and can walk in. And sorry the pics are not top nothc, the iphone is st






Any reccomendations for SPD shoes that do te job well but you can walk in?

This is just as light (16lbs!!!!) and has a better spec overall

If they'd been on the market when I was looking back in April I would have got one without even looking at the rest. I love my Trek but yours is nicer than anything under £1200 IMO.

Can you help me with regards to shoes, I obviously want some that are designed for the shimano spd fitting, but I must stress I do need to be able to walk a bit in thm, as I walk into the office (marble like floor) then get changed..

Would these be any good?

You should be okay in them as Shimano cheats have rubber bits where they contact the ground. You'll walk like a duck but you won't fall over!

Nice bike.

The shoes in the ebay link wouldn't be any good with the pedals you have as they're SPD-SL (Shimano's take on road bike pedals) but your pedals are SPD which are more commonly found on MTB & touring bikes.

Any SPD shoes should be ok as they'll have recessed cleats whereas the SPD-SL will have you clicking your way across the office waddling like a duck.

For a "roadie" type shoe but keeping the pedals you have I'd take a look at Shimano RT51 as they have roadie styling but a recessed SPD cleat. Be aware that Shimano shoes are usually a bit on the small side so you may need to order one size up from your usual.

I am starting to see I have made an error not buying look pedals. But I think I will try these to start and spend out if I need to at a later time.

Shimano SPD-SL shoes are fine for walking short distances; a pair of basic ones, plus a pair of 105 pedals to match the groupset on the bike, will set you back comfortably less than £100 in total.

As I understnad it the cleats come with the pedals, so if in a few weeks I want to get some 105 pedals spd-sl, what shoes can I get that will do both spd for the current pedals, and then spd-sl for when I complete my groupset

Look, Time or Shimano SPD SL cleats require a full on road shoe (which all tend to be pre drilled for Look/Time/SPD anyway) where the cleats stand proud of the sole which means they are not great for walking in:

Road shoes are OK for hobbling into a cafe or newsagent but any further and I tend to just take them off - especially indoors or on slippery surfaces, walking wears out the cleats too.

Thanks chap, they seem cheap enough, I think I will probably get a pair of those and see how I get on, then as an when I can swap to a proper road system or whatever.

He put a new tube in and I bought a spare, and no that one is going down

Jeez.. just fit a set of MTB SPD's and buy a pair of MTB shoes.. they will do the job and be "walk-able"

Well I ordered some RO76 shoes and all the gubbins that I needed.

And plan to tackle a 30 odd miler on saturday with a mate.

Always check for what caused the flat - run your fingers round the inside of the tyre slowly

I did, nothing there, so put another tube in (although I have strict instructions from swerni and my mate to repair them from now on). I plan to do a long ride with a mate at weekend so hopefully I will be ok, as I plan to take a repair kit and one tube.
