I've developed a bit of a clicking quite regularly from the drivetrain somewhere and I'm struggling to find the culprit.
It started happening after a really long muddy/sandy ride, I thought it was the rear mech all gunged up so I stripped everything off, cleaned it and reassembled.
Now I'm getting a kind of a 'click' when putting down the power in any gear.
I've inspected the chain (was new about 6 months ago) - all looks good, each link moves freely.
I've inspected the rear cassette & front sprockets - all teeth look straight, aren't worn.
As it happens in every gear I cannot figure this. I don't think it is originating from the front (it doesn't feel like the bottom bracket, which I replaced ~ 6 months ago).
Last night I started getting funny gear changes - wouldn't always change down without going down 2 clicks etc. Tried simple adjustment of the cable, then it wouldn't change up unless going 2 clicks. So now I'm stuck - most of the time it changes 1 gear at a time, but then sometimes it needs 2 clicks to make it change. Fine adjustment of the cable just alternates which direction needs 2 clicks, I cannot get it perfect!
One thing I did notice though - the rear mech doesn't always spring out fully. E.g. I am in gear 5, I change to gear 6, get the clicking of changing gears but it doesn't - then the smallest poke of the derailleur going with the spring action allows it to change. Great, it must be the spring tension - well that is up fully now and has no more adjustment. I've lubed the hell out of it but can't see any reason why it doesn't always want to move the last couple of millimetres to allow it to change down. I wondered about cable stretch, but I don't think this is the case as it would allow the derailleur to move more, not less.
Anyone any ideas?

The cable could be corroded, and sticking in the cable-outer. You could try and get some lube into the cable outer, or replace them.
Spot on - the rear 2 cable outers were quite corroded. Tried oiling them and the cable, but it wasn't exactly a smooth movement. A few quid later new cable and new outers and gears are working again, cheers
