Rock Lobster Team tig SL.......

So, to cut a long story short I currently have a GT STS carbon jobby which is my pride and joy and is a keeper but I have a real hankering for a Rock Lobster Team tig sl.

Has anybody on here any experience of the Rock Lobster? I have read a few reviews et al and it seems as though it ticks my boxes as I've always been a climber rather than a dh'er so a light rigid with classic looks is where I'd like to put my hard earned.

Or am I missing something else?

Had a minor problem with the Rebas leaking oil, but upgraded seals from TF Tuned sorted them. Otherwise it's fantastic. I haven't done a shop round lately, but when I went looking it was the best value hardtail I could find for £1k:

Mavic XC717 rims on XT hubs - Merlin-built
Race Face Deus seatpost, stem & bars.

The headtube is quite long compared to a newer or racier XC frame like a Scandal or something from Cube, but with the stem flipped over it works well for me and seems well put together, although the seatstay design is a bit scruffy and it would be nice to have a forward-facing seatclamp/slot.

Paint/anodised finish looks thin, but hasn't chipped: I've put helicopter tape everywhere that matters.

I love it, and the Merlin wheels seem pretty good - still tight and true after about a thousand miles.

I like microbrands, budget was £1k and I wanted alu rather than steel: the other close contender was an On-One Scandal, but that was significantly pricier for the same spec.

I wondered about a Boardman - just launched at the time and all the rage - that and a Gary Fisher - can't remember the name - seemed to be the pick of the 'mainstream' bunch, but both came with mix 'n' match components and poor wheels compared to the Rock Lobster.

It's filthy at the moment, but I'll nip out and weigh it in a sec. - just have to allow a crud factor.

Not ridden the Rock Lobster, but i do have a nice Dialled Bikes Ti framed bike.

Had it for the last 6 years wouldn't be without it

I had the same issue with some REBA Teams on my 99 Explosif. Seals went, (just) out of warranty - but Rock Shox repaired FOC. Great people to deal with.

It's probably about normal, the Giant XTC 1 is the same weight with an alu frame, my XTC A1 is slightly less and cost £700 but it was a 2008 when the 09s were coming out so had a big discount.
