Was happily cycling along to work at 7am on Thursday morn, when a kind sole flung her car door open on me. She couldn't have timed it better as i had absolutely no time to react.

I was probably doing around 20mph, slightly downhill, leaving as much a gap between me and park cars as possible. Big door though, the bike came off scot free, sadly i caught the edge of the door with my ribs, elbow and thigh, ouch! Couldn't get up off the road so was scooped up into the ambulance and off to a&e for a couple of days. Now at home licking my wounds no fun having cracked ribs and a stuffed elbow frown

Good advert for wearing a cycling hat though!

If you'd posted this in the lounge or general gassing you'd've been inundated with rants that you shouldn't be in the car users' ways/should be insured/should pay(additional) road tax/should've been riding slower to avoid the incident/shouldn't be covered by the NHS for your potential injuries etc.

Glad you survived relatively unharmed and that you choose to wear a tin lid.

It was frown

The police have said that there is a specific offence that covers opening a car door and not checking, so they may charge her, although they still asked if i wanted to make a complaint too, which seemed a bit odd.

Anyway, i was happy to just let it go, but i think it's only fair that she should compensate for my damages, but she's not contacted me as the police said she would, would the police give me her details?
