one for the roadies i suspect....

if we assume for the avoidance of arguments, that the purpose of leg shaving is to reduce chaffing and to aid massage, just how good do you have to be to warrant such actions?

can you tell its friday?

You have to be good enough to still be able to smoke any hairy legged baggy shorted mtb'r, fixie mounted fashionista, tracksuited leisure rider or shell suited chav - even when exhausted after a hard 80 mile training ride whilst they are just sprinting down the shops.

You must of course be able to do this without looking like you are trying to do so. An aloof lifting of the head (nodding is Ok for more serious roadies, mtbrs & trackies), sardonic raising of an eyebrow and brief curled lip smile is sufficient aknowledgement.

This is all light hearted obviously as I ride all sorts of bikes myself.

Seems like I'm bored too..

I had thoughtit was done to reduce infection in the case of road rash. Whatever, in conjunction with a lycra fetish, it seems rather pervy, so I heartilly approve.

Tbh, the reasons I do it are (in order)

1. Feels good - wind in your (lack of hair) makes you feel speedy
2. Peer pressure - bike racers shave their legs - if you don't shave, you are not a bike racer.
3. Aids massage - a quick post ride massage is much more appealing and easier to do without hair.
4. Letting it grow back in is the itchiest thing known to man - its a vicious cycle.

How quick do you need to be? Not really - you just need to be good at bullstting - the reason that the guy on the crap fixie can hold your wheel is because you have just been on a 180k ride with a set of FTP intervals in the middle - not because he is faster.

laugh Helped along the way by skinny tyres at 100psi instead of 2.5-3" tyres running as low as you dare risking a pinch puncture

Pablo,
If you want to shave your legs, you go ahead mate.
You don't need us lot telling you it's okay wink
It's all fine, we won't judge. wink

The only trouble to a hairy chimp like me is where to stop? Shorts level so you end up with hairy shorts? Up to the old twig & berries and leave myself with hairy pants? Do the meat & 2-veg and have the belly hair just stop? Or go the whole hog and spend half a day wrestling with the lawnmower blunting the blades before moving on to the garden shears to do a whole body and head job? And the itchiness when the stubble grows through doesn't bare thinking about.

You throwbacks aren't sufficiently far evolved to ride bikes, that's the problem.

Aye, we're more at home advertising PG Tips, banging the teapot on the table was the most complex thing I could manage in the ads. It took years of training to get me mate to play the piano!

Isn't that why throwbacks get to ride road bikes? They're not bright enough to deal with obstacles bigger than a pebble and pedalling at the same time? wink

'It's the taste!' - How long did it take you to learn the lines?

Simultaneously pedalling and looking where I'm going is tough enough - I'm sure that's why I'm so bad at riding uphill.

My wife thinks I have excessive body hair, but you 'people' who can't get a suntan are a different matter entirely smile.

No MTBs are better for monkey men where their bandy legged pedaling style is 'de rigueur' and the extra stability of fat tyres, lwb & wide bars helps them stay upright.hehe

You could always shave an Assos logo into your hairy shorts for added kudos - or a 661 logo for you more 'gnarly' dudes.
