Evening,

The time has come for me to replace my very old helmet.

Nipped into snow and rock today for a quick nosey but nothing really took my fancy.

Any ideas? I'm looking under £80 and preferably under £50. So not talking super duper, just something that's relatively light and comfy and as I have a big head something quite slender (for want of a better word).

Cheers

Having the same large headed issue I tried on loads before going for a Chris Boardman lid from halfrauds £59 and light and slim, I have no idea on it's pros and cons as lids go but it fits my main criteria of not making me look like mushroom

You just have to try on a whole load until you find the one that fits best.

if you find one you like you can normally buy padding kits to make it comfy. i have a specialized echelon which is pretty much a road helemt (no peak) that i use a lot as its very comfy and some generic giro mtb helmet. the main difference is how they adjust at the back, some have a dial, other a less secure clip and pull kind of plastic strap. the echelon dial is really easy to adjust on hte move.

Giro Xen: it's the only one to go for really, and Evans are doing them for £59.99 at the moment: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/giro/xen-helme... xen

Blimey. That's a really good price for an excellent helmet (bias alert!)

The Giro Havoc is on offer at Halfords at the minute for £20, down from £50. I think that was for a medium size.

I'd recommend a Fox Flux.

I torpedoed head first into the deck at Afan at a trillion, billion, million mph. Broke my left wrist, right elbow, brusied ribs, cracked sub-frame on the Endruo.

Helmet was totalled, but I didn't even get a headache (of course I was ripped to the tits on gas/air and morphine so not sure a headache would have registered)

A bit bulky and the rear 'spoiler' is a bit fashion statement, but the fitting system is second to none.

On sale at Stif.

Christ that's cheap.

I've one of those, and at that price I might get a spare...

Make sure you buy what you try in a shop. Don't buy web without trying.

Cheers guys.

I went with one of these in the end i was feeling impulsive last night. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod...

Not tried it on but tried plenty of other Met helmets which all fitted fine. I'm hoping because its a special big noggin edition it won't look so mushroomy. Can always send it back if not.

Failing that i think i'll go for the Xen which i've tried but it was more expensive in snow and rock, or the Fox if i can find one to try somewhere.
