Hi,

I am slowly but surely feeling the effects of sitting in an office for too long and havent done any proper exercise for ages.

I have a mountain bike sat in the garage which has barely been used and I think its time to start sorting myself out.

BUT, even back when I used to ride to work I never had appropriate clothing for cycling in, so now I'd like some of the longjohn style trousers, and a longsleeve top - but where to get them.

Im not going to be a 'serious' rider as such - and circumstances at the moment sadly mean I dont have a great deal of spare cash, so can you guys recommend me a decent online supplier for cycle clothing that would be suitable for my purpose.

Thanks in advance. thumbup

Decathlon do very keenly priced and functional kit - well worth looking into.

That looks like a good site, and I can get a set of cycling tights and long sleeve top for around 20 quid which is pretty good, especially as I can only see me being an occasional rider! thumbup

The DHB stuff from Wiggle is good value. http://www.probikekit.com do their own brand "PBK" stuff which is good too.

On a budget I'd go for a decent set of shorts (bib shorts preferably) and pick up some classic Ronhill Tracksters to go over the top while it's cold.

For this time of year you really want something windproof on your top half - a regular longsleeve cycling top will be chilly without something over it.

the dhb stuff is really good, i use a lot of it. although you say you arent going to be a "serious" cyclist, there is no point risking damaging your tackle with cheap/no padding in your shorts regardless of how long you spend in the saddle. bibs are so comfy too.

also invest in some chamois cream (udderly smooth as an example)

try parker international or geoffrey butler for cheap clothing. its normally good stuff and they do older pro team stuff so if you dont mind being a bit out of date you can be well dressed for not much!

I have these ronhill bikester leggins. I find them fantastic. They are thick enough to keep you warm in winter but not so thick that you overheat in summer. For really really cold days (below 0 degrees) they are loose enough to fit a pair of long johns underneath. They arn't really tight like tights and are perfect in every way for me (xc/light trail use) they are also pretty resistant to water. If you go through a big deep puddle or mud your legs stay dry but if its raining you do get damp. because of the foot loop atthe bottom they also don't ride up your leg and have a high cut waist at the back too.

Aldi and Lidl have still got some stuff knocking around - Aldi is better quality than Lidl but they are both cheap as chips.

I picked up a pair of those Karrimor padded tights. Very good value for money. A bit short at the back but I can put up with that. As previously said, the Ronhills are good with a pair of padded shorts underneath. Had a pair for donkeys years, and they are as good as new. Didn't even know they still make them.
