Hi,

Been using the Team Carbon for work for the last 2 weeks and its been awesome!

Just wondered if there are any recommended cycle shops in the Leeds area where i can get the bike fully checked over? Gears properly adjusted etc? Halfords did an OK job i just feel shifting could be smoother, and now the cables have streched i think it's the right time to get a full check over.

Had had a go at adjusting the front mech for a couple of hours the other day and i cant stop the chain rubbing the guide sound in all gears. It's not bad but my experience and knowledge has gone as far as it can.

Also is the need to oil the chain every 15 miles or so normal? Theres been loads of salt on the roads recently and i get the dry chain squeel after 2 rides. Sorry if this sounds a bit ignorant but my old cycle to work bike is a bit of a warhorse.

Thanks!

I'm sure there must be lots of bike shops in Leeds but my riding mates there use Edinburgh Bicycles in/near Chapel Allerton and speak highly of them.

When I was in Leeds I used Edinburgh cycles (Chapel A way), staff knew their stuff, went out of their way to help me (bolt came out of a disc, they cut down a longer bolt and just gave it to me).

I used to use EBC a lot, since it was round the corner and they were a very helpful bunch. Bought my Commencals from there too, so they cost me a fortune smile I don't know if they still do them, but they used to do a days Maintenance Course where you get taught some basic servicing.

There's also Stif in Headingley - their workshop is always busy, particularly at weekends, and you might find yourself mulling over the Oranges a little too much.

If you got stuck you could also try Drake's in Harehills.

That course ebc may still do sounds interesting. Fine tuning gears, trueing wheels and anything crank related is still a black art to me!

Also gonna pop down drakes and have a nosey - that place has been going ages, when I was a nipper that's where every parent seemed to be buying our bikes from! Must be doing something rite?

Glad to see EBC getting a good rep on here!

I probably served some of you lot I guess biggrin

Drakes is a good shop too, they know their stuff.

OP - the maintenance course is brilliant, I used to help out with them - Its a full day, you bring your own bike, and basically you get a walkthrough of a full service, covers all the areas most people need right up to rebuilding hubs etc - so at the end of the day you've got the skills AND a fully serviced bike. Price also includes your dinner.

Be warned - they are EXTREMELY popular and they dont run for the summer months as we couldnt afford the lost workshop time - you may find they are booked up now till September. Give James/Craig/Elliot a call at the shop and they'll give you the details 0113 2687463 thumbup Tell em Simon sent you!

Sorry for dragging up an old post, just a quick thanks to those who recommended EBC - got the bike back today after a full check over and it feels a different bike to the one Halfords supplied me. The brakes are now lovely and progressive and the gears shift like gears should on a £1k bike lol!

Snotrag i checked with them about the intensive bike course, they are fully booked in Leeds. Not suprised as at £49 for a full day their bloody good value! Plenty of spaces in the Newcastle branch however might have to visit me old pal and make a weekend of it.

Again thanks!
