I've been thinking about a 29er, does anyone have any experience? Mainly for forest trails, not super mental downhill craziness...

only had a very brief play on one but i didnt really notice a difference except that on wider trails, bridlepaths etc, it was very stable, the bike felt planted on the ground and wasnt as sketchy as a 26" under power. not sure i would have one instead of a 26" but i would gladly add it to the fleet!

even on the tight twisty singletrack it wasnt a problem. i really liked the extra wheelbase length as it was very comfy!

I think for faster routes on slightly more open terrain and fitted with slightly narrower (1.75 /1.95) tyres they are great.

They are slightly less manouverable on very tight technical terrain and slightly slower to alter their line on descents (though roll over obstacles more easily).

I've not tried a full sus 29er but if I wanted a new hardtail I'd consider one.

That's the conclusion I'd come to myself, thanks for cementing it in my mind.

Thanks to Pablo too!

Tried hardtail and full sus. It is more than a little marmite. Depends on the sort of riding you do. They really suit the bigger rider and I found the momentum of the wheels a real drag. A really good friend loves all his 29ers but he is the first to admit that the tyre choices are rubbish and the only way he could get decent wheels was to have them hand made from scratch. You are very limited on decent forks and you need some superb brakes to stop those big wheels.
