http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/districts/bo..._Arrogant__Poole_cyclist_found_guilty_after_Bournemouth_prom_incident/

This was big news last summer. We had community police wombles on the prom with speed guns hiding behind bins trying to catch cyclists. There are signs up across the prom showing a 10mph speed limit for cycles.

I was stopped for something like 13mph and I was far less than subtle, asking where the law stated that I should have some sort of speedo, so dont waste my time because I have no way of knowing...

It got very heated and from what I heard and witnessed the council officials were being heavy handed. What I find interesting is that this official had no right to stop a cyclist, the cyclist gets upset and is taken away in 'cuffs and thrown in the cells but at no time was he charged with speeding, from what I can establish no one has been.

He was found guilty of non-RTA offences. The idiot.

If he had kept his cool and just gave them a mooney smile, there is nothing they could have done.

Smiling would likely be behaviour intended to cause alarm or distress.

How can they establish who you are if you just carry on riding and dont give them your details. It's not as if they can get your reg number!
But I take your point about not knowing you were speeding if you dont even legally have to have a speedo.

You can actually get done for speeding on a bicycle! I was watching an old Police Camera program and it showed a cyclist doing around 37 mph (downhill) in a 40mph zone, the narrator said that if he went over the speed limit the police would have words with him!

Well, some kind of regulation has to be brought in to make sure that cyclists follow/obey road regulations:

That article is very ambiguous though. It says she was hit crossing the road. That could be read as her stepping right out in front of the bloke pedalling along lawfully, minding his own business.

It could be read that way but to then get arrested on suspicion of manslaughter makes this incident read somewhat differently.

It should be safe to assume that she was was on a pedestrian crossing of some sort.

Still, to die from being hit by a cyclist is very unlucky, in a non-morbid way I'd like to know a bit more about just what happened.

"Have a word with him" - Yes. But nothing else.
