It's all gone a bit quiet in here regarding Team PH's attack on the L2B, but seeing as there's only 3 months to go i thought i'd start a thread to see how everyone's preparation is going.

Prep here isn't going to badly, and things are certainly easier now that the weather's improving. I think i've got the logistics sorted, so things are coming together quite nicely.

I'm looking forward to it!

I wonder when the shirts will turn up.............

Are any others on the team heading to LM the wekend before? I may well be seen putting in some training on the Mulsanne on Friday on a ratty looking Pompino.

My prep isnt going great frown

Hoping that will change once the clocks change, I work a good 50 mile commute away from home, so at the moment leaving early getting home after dark.

Been on a few rides at the weekend though, maximum was 15 miles and i felt absolutely destroyed after it...

Still can only get better right?

From a non pedallist, i'm finding that the gearing of my bike is too easy on the flats, so i'm taking a lot of energy to get up to any speed. Is there an easy way i can fix that? different sproket set i guess?

What bike are you using? Changing the cassette snd/or chainrings sound like the obvious options, but changing the latter may not be as easy as you think.

I have been trying to fit in all kinds of cycling lately where possible, the opportunities on the road have been limited to the last three Sundays. Each of those runs has been between 20 and 25 miles. Being based down here in South Wales I will not be able to train with any of you guys, but I do have a pretty interesting training ground of the Gower Peninsula. Whilst interesting, it is very undulating, which is hard work on the single speed bike.
Averaged 15mph over 25 miles on Sunday which was pretty gutting as I was pretty much bang on 20 on the flat countryside of Northamptonshire last year frown Splashed the cash on a 1.99 cycle computer from Lidl though today and in my experience that always motivates me when I am on the bike, so hopefully things will pick up!

Using a 1999 vintage GT Palomar fixed frame MTB, i could always just splash the cash on a hybrid or road bike instead

Hmmm too easy on the flats? How many gears do you have? Are you using the top ring on the front chain ring? without wanting to sound patronising!!!

I am really looking forward to this years L2B, tis a great route. But in previous years I did some training and was quite disappointed as we left after 9 we were always stuck in traffic (cycle traffic!) and I only got to stretch my legs and get a decent pace on at the end! Also always remember you are limited by the slowest member of your group, so you might be able to crack a great pace, but your mate Dave might be sat their struggling averaging 11/12 mph!

This year I am leaving at 8. is that a good time? In the past I left at 9 and was fecking pissed off, at the even slightest hill (no exaggeration) nearly all the riders jumped off and pushed!! Then I was looking forward to the steep hill at the end, and wanted to crack it flat out with no breaks ( I love climbing) yet all the people pushing got in the way, limiting progress. In the end I got behind a really aggressive guy who shouted to everyone "get out the efffing way!" and tucked in behind him!!

Been using top ring on the front bottom ring at the back, been a long time since i've been on a bike proper. I should probably put my bike computer on and see how fast i'm actually going, but even in that combo it seems like i'm peddling far too much for the (lack of) speed i'm carrying.

i'm not so sure that changing the cassette is going to make too much difference. It can also cause you all sorts of problems if the chain's worn.

A bigger ring at the front is likely to be a better option, however the cost is likely to be prohibitive given what you're putting it on.

If you're really running out of gears on the road the best option by far is to buy a road bike.

Any news on the sponsorship push? I'm sure some publicity on the main site would work wonders......

I've been doing 10 miles most days, along with the occasional 20 miler at the weekends. I'm far from match fit, but I'm better than I was.

Current form suggests a mid- table finish for me.

With the lighter nights now, I'm going to spend a few evenings a week in Richmond Park is anyone wants to share the work a bit?
