Sice november i havent been out riding, iv just been slogging away in the gym which is paying off but it just doesnt cut it compared to getting out and muddy in the woods.
It was so much fun being out in the woods sliding around in between the trees, watching people fall off into the mud i had a blast! It also feels like iv had a much better workout than i would of done in the gym!
It also reminded me how much i love my bike and why i spent to much on it solid stable and super resonsive even in the muddy slimy conditions i never felt like it was going to let go on any part of the trails!
Roll on the next ride biggrin

oh and waterproof socks.... where have they been all my life!!

I don't do much woods riding on the mtb, but just thought I'd comment on the waterproof socks, I love them cloud9 Pair of sealskins for me, damned expensive but there's nothing quite like getting home after a ride in the rain with warm, dry feet and taking off your socks to find that they're absolutely soaking hehe

did a lap of the trwch trail at cwm carn yesterday, swapped bikes with my mate halfway round, his 98 rockhopper for my 09 super 4.... loved it, forgotten how much fun hardtails are, really make you think about your lines and how you attack a technical section of the trail and the acceleration is sublime. i'll never part with the super 4 but i NEED another hardtail now...

as for the ride, it reminded me why i love cycling, a bit of banter with the others out there, the rain, hte ahil, the mist in the woods....the ham, egg and chips in the cafe afterwards.... smile

Just spent 3 hours in Swinley Forest (seemingly on my own!) and know where you are coming from! I ache like hell, legs are killing me, shoulders are knotted but I had a blast and got Very wet and VERY VERY muddy!

I used to race BMX's and MTB's many moons ago (before Carbon fiber - in fact I can remember getting my hands on some titanium forks and attracting a lot of attention). My bike was stolen (at a race of all places) and I never really got back into it. About 14 years ago I bought a cheap halfords bike and spent a couple of years trail riding then kids came along, the bike went and I bought a hybrid to tow the kids with! Kids are big enough to ride their own bike now so in Feb this year I went out and bought myself a half decent MTB again!

I really look forward to my outings, wife and kids cannot understand what is so enjoyable about thrashing through forests and down trails getting wet and muddy but I is the most (well amost) enjoyable way of getting your pulse above resting!

Can't wait for next weekend to get out again.................
