.... within maybe 1/2 hour drive or closer so I can get out during the week.

Haven't been on a bike for years but with a need to try and get fit again I've just went out and bought a Ghost. Had a ride on one this afternoon and liked it so it arrives next week. Just need to figure out where to go with it.

It's not that far a drive to Dalby forest. Excellent over there.

Cool, that's a few to look for. Seems like there's at least a few local folks here.

i'm Roundhay area, looking for easy-ish stuff to start with. Haven't been on any bike for years (at least the engineless variety) smile

I'll have a think. In the meantime make sure you talk to the lads in EBC in Chapel Allerton (Ask for Elliot, tell him I sent you) he knows some good routes in North Leeds.

We used to do a ride from the shop up through Roundhay park and up to Harewood, plenty of singletrack too.

Getting hold of an OS Explorer of the area is a good bet too, you'll get one in a bookshop in town easy enough.

I know of EBC, I've passed by them enough times. I'll pop in sometime as I'll no doubt be needing a few bits and pieces.
If you can email me a rough outline of the route from the park that would be great as the park is about 5 mins from me.
Cheers

I did part the Harewood ride this afternoon.
There will be a few routes through the park but you will
need to get down to the ring road by the lights at park lane.
Head up the ring road towards Wetherby road after about 3 or 4 hundred meters
you will see a bridal path that takes you by the new scout hut in Shadwell.
Cross main street and go down Holywell lane at the sharp 90 deg corner take the bridal path continue on this until hit Tarn lane cross Tarn lane continue on the bridal path this will bring you out in Wike. You can then take a road section past wike ridge golf course until you hit Harrogate road. Lots of people park here but it's notorious for cars getting broke into (including my old Alfa!!)
Go through the big gate in to the Harewood estate just follow the bridal paths. I turn off by the Emmerdale set across fields and around Eccup reservoir then home. On the road from Wike there is other bridal paths you can use on the right.
