Which Road Bike? £1000 limit

Hi guys,
Currently I MTB to work with my Ride2Work bike, but now I've had that a year I'm tempted to get a proper full on road bike and leave the MTB to go out on the trails/park/llandegla with my GF...
Does anyone have both an MTB and a Road Bike? is it worth it?
Could someone recommend a road bike for £1000? Must be from Evans Cycles

There are quite a few makes that will get you Tiagra kit for about that sort of cash.
The one you're looking at seems pretty nice, but the age old advice of "Try a few to see what you feel comfortable on" is valid every time.
I've been told The Cut near Waterloo is their road bike specialist. Not been in myself, might walk over at lunchtime for you...

The Univega with Ultegra is a little trick for the money.

I had the same choice.
I got the 2009 BMC Streetfire ssx.
Full 105, and I mean full. Pretty cent else where as well, from what I can tell its a great bit of kit. Although I didn't really ride much else to compare, but its quick enough and so far strong enough to put up with my 15 stone body

I looked at some of the BMC bikes, some of them are awfully pretty, and the 2009 models that Evans are trying to shift are good value too...To the OP:
Have a look in the bargain section. Sometimes only the tiny sizes are left, but not always. Feb and March are better hunting times, but there are still some '09 bargains to be had.
I popped along to The Cut, it's worth a look. I managed to just keep my wallet in my pocket, but it was tough...

Finishing kit may be a little bit budget, but the frame and finish should be tip top.

I used to do a 4 mile round trip on a rockhopper pro disc, which in its day was a decent MTB, probs around £700. I put slicks on it, and thought it was pretty much as quick as a road bike as it was light too.
It was nowhere near, not even close. I spent £1000 on that BMC above to use outside of the commute as much as anything, but its so much easier to ride long distances on.
I would say even a £500-600 Allez is going to knock the socks off ANY MTB for road riding. Worth it for sure for a 12 mile distance.

Yes, I've just bought a cyclocross bike, scott comp 2010, and have put some road wheels on for comuting, will use the others for trails, bad weather, winter, coast to coast etc, and it's excellent. Was doing 30mph on it on my way home from work, very slight down hill bit, not effortless obviously but much easier than on the MTB.My commute may be increasing to about 24 miles round trip though...
And, me mate has a CAAD 9, very nice piece of kit and get's excellent reviews. Have a look on the 'gear' section of bike radar, some good reviews.

I narrowly missed out on last years CAAD9 that was also a grand it had full 105 kit on it.Personally I love the 'dale in team colours, but after the last one was gone and I was left with the choice of a fully equipped BMC that had far better kit levels than the one above and I doubt I would have noticed that much difference in the frame anyway.
