Specialized Allez Sport 27 - First Road Bike????
Discussion
We have the old C2W scheme going via Edinburgh Bike Coop and I'm tempted to go for a road bike so I can attmept the 28miles round trip commute I have never bothered to do on my previous C2W bike (a spesh Rockhopper comp disc - bought and paid for).
Yes, I got a C2W bike and never C2W on it
So , last time I rode a racer was my old raleigh thingy when I was 13 years old. I know fvck all about them really.
This would be my absolute max budget (£630) and I was just after some feedback on your thoughts.

I can only actually do the commute 2 days a week due to my working arrangements on certain days, the bike would also be used for the odd ride at the weekend too.
What I'm concerned about is this simply being too much bike for what I need it for and should I just go for the cheaper Revolution bike, which I believe is edinburghs own frame, with what appear to be quality components bolted on??

If it matters, I'm a big bugger (6'4" 17 stone).

I have the 2008 version of that bike and love it - in fact entered my first cat 4 race on it last night.
The frame is a good base, so it's fairly worthy of upgrades if/when you want to progress.
My one has a fair amount of mileage on it now, and other than needing new tyres, the package holds together pretty well.

I too am thinking about getting a roadbike. I tried the Specialized Allez basic bike but did not like the gear shifters as they felt too cheap. A week later they let me try an Allez Elite and I loved it but it is £300 more at £799.
Should I?
I dont know a huge amount about road bikes but a very good friend of mine sells them for a living. He says that for 800 you could do a lot worse than the Allez Elite.Should I?
