Just spent another great weekend at Afan.. Planning to go back there again later this year... question is, from Afan how many other trails can you get to in no more than one hours travelling? I am guessing Cwmcarn, any others?

There are some trails out on The Gower. Always meant to try them but never got round to it.

Go east my son! Cwmcarn absolutely rocks. That final downhill on the XC route is truly epic and they've got a lift-serviced downhill trail and a freeride area now.

The natural trail above Margam are good. Only a 5 min ride from my gaff too. There are loads of areas close, but Trail Centre-wise it's Afan/Glyncorrwg/Cwmcarn really.

Brechfa Forrest is about another 45 mins down the M4 from Afan. 3x trails, Blue which is far better / more tech than 'blue' would lead you to think, 'Red' which does have a name, but I don't remember it 'Gorlech' maybe, which is stunning and a match for anything at Afan / CCarn, especially the last 3rd and 'Black' Raven, which is a tough as nails up and down.

Brechfa is worth doing IMO - only ridden there once, but was good fun none the less!

Loads around the area. There's a good few hours around Ogmore too. Some lovely little "secret" areas, which only dog walkers and doggers go to.

This spot is 10mins away from Bridgend. Loads of loops, drop-offs, dry sandy singletrack, fast downhill and sheep poo. What more could you want.

I've stayed away from the trail centres for years, as they get too busy.

I'm in Cardiff and getting a little bored of the ridgeway etc (although it's good) so want to explore some more.

I'm a big fan of Afan but planning a weekend at Brechfa then Cwm Carn next month. Can't wait!

Portobello at Ogmore by Sea. (pst don't tell anyone else).

It links up with the limestone plateau above Southerndown golf course. Nice little wooded and gorsed areas. All dry due to limestone/aeolian sands.

The coastal road route is a gem to.
