Coast to Coast Daily Blog
Discussion
16 years ago - which is half my life - myself and five friends headed off to cycle the coast to coast from St Bees near Whitehaven to Robin Hoods Bay. For some strange reason (well as a stag week for one of them) we have all met up again to do the same thing again (minus one who has dissapeared over the years). So I thought I would blog our adventure across Lakes, Dales and Moors all off road as we reenact our adventure from when we much younger, prettier and more stupid!
Day 0
Distance: 144 miles by car
Route: Pickering to St Bees
Night Stop: Whistling Jacks
Problems: Forgot my sleeping bag
To start the trip we have found an amazing and very cheap B&B (though they did us an awesome evening meal of sausage casserol or chicken kebabs with rice and flat bread). The rooms in this place are amazing and the bathrooms are as big as my flat in London. Highly recommend it and Jacqui and Mark who converted barn are awesome hosts.Â
All the group have arrived (nearly) and the usual bike piss taking has commenced, the riders and equipment for this trip are as follows:
Myself - Retro 1998 Marin Mountvision
Ben - Orange 5 Â
Dave - Scott SparkÂ
Tim - Genisis Day One single speed cycle crossÂ
Ian - Nicolai Helios CC Â Â
Howard - We await to see what the doctor has brought, he is running late as usual!
Predictions are: Ben's orange 5 tune seat post will snap on the first downhill, Tim will be fixing punctures every 0.8 miles, and my 1998 after being rebuilt will rattle to pieces on the sight of off road!
Off to bed for the 8am start!
Will try and add pics when not in middle of nowhere.

To revive an old topic and solve the mystery of the temporarily missing tech guy, on day 1 of the coast to coast he cracked his knee on the soap dish in the shower and caused an injury that got worse day by day, but manfully struggled on and made it to the end... And the lack of updates was something about his iphone not talking to o2 which wouldn't talk to flickr which wasn't talking to pistonheads, or something along those lines anyway!
Oh yes and to deal with Petes predictions in turn, the tune seatpost amazingly lasted, Petes bike didnt rattle to bits too badly but the superlight innertube he bought instead of the heavy duty one he was advised to buy had exploded before lunch on the first day, Tym got 3 punctures and a bent fork, Howard was late for everything and much fun was had by all. Oh and much food. And a moderate quantity of beer.
