alittle help identifying stem type...
Discussion
Um Cheers... :P
To be honest I would like to get a set of new forks and everything else up but for the price of all that I would get a better bike from halfords...
But I would prefer one of these ... but until I get alittle help from the bike to work scheme thats a bit of pipe dream...
back to the stem... I think it is an road-over sized "threadless" but not being too familiar with this part of a bike I'm a bit lost for choice...

You can't simply fit a spacer as if you did, the top part of the stem clamp would have insufficient steerer tube to clamp onto.
It looks like a regular 11/8th inch ahead set stem - if the bats are around 11/8" diameter where they meet the stem you need a stem for oversize bars. If nearer 1" they are probably standard. Check for figures on stem & bars. You need to buy a 11/8" stem of a suitable length with a 30-45 degree rise. Possible for around £15 - try a bbb Riser stem from www.allterraincycles.co.uk

I had a similar problem on my mtb mainly use for commuting on road so wanted a more upright position
got a replacement A-head stem with a 1/2" rise on it and also replaced the straight bars with a riser bar with around 1.5" rise on it
