London to Southend, July 18th

A quick question, any PHer doing this this year? or have done it in the past?

Is there a route map from previous years available? As I live near Southend, would like to recce some of the closing miles of the route.

I'm signed up for it this year. Took me a bit of googling to find a route map though, I'll dig it out when I'm at home later. From memory though the closing stages are through battlesbridge, hullbridge ashingdon and rochford.

I'm doing this too...last time i ddid i think it was the inaugral event 18 years ago? Hills near Hornchurch / Upminster iirc - otherwise nice ride and good day out. Looking forward to it!

Anyone got any ideas on what a good first time is for this ride? I'm hoping for under 4 hours but will be happy with sub 5.

No - idea. Sub 5 would sound (very) doable. Mrs Willy, some friends and I will be doing the cycle together and it is a very mixed standard of riders. Feel it will resemble something of a Pub to pub sprint rather than a flat out push for the line!

Have said 6 hours max, Have a side wager with my boss as it took 4 of us 6 hours to do the 32mile Thames Bridges ride 2 weeks ago. I am hoping realistically to do 4 1/2 > 5 hours. While not a dash for the line, my local is near the end, so beer at the end for me!

What time are people starting? I'm at 8

i have done it in just over 4 hours before, with 2 other keen nutters, and over 8 with a group who seemed to be desperate to get done for being bladdered in charge of a bike

There are five in my group and another 7 or 8 that I know are doing it, not PHers though, they are too into their bikes to spend money on cars

Did it a few years ago with the club, about 12 miles out from Southend you hit a mammoth headwind allllllllllll the way home

So how did we all get on?

3 hours 52 here. Quite a hard ride for my level, I started to cramp up on any incline towards the end.

Very happy with my time although I suspect it was not the full 59 miles it was billed as.

Add an hour for me

4:57 to do 56 miles(per my computer) Did my knee in, (sja suspect tendon), every down stroke on the left was pure hell.

But I did finish, and hoping to be able to be fit again soon.

Just under 3 1/2hrs for me, the computer was showing 55 miles including the 3 mile ride to the start. Was really happy with that time and even more happy how I felt at the end, must be improving
