Here's one to get you started, destined for my Orange C16R fixie project



After an evening spent lacing it into a nice Velocity Deep V



With matching front done radially on a cooking MTB hub I had spare



Should get to ride it tomorrow, can't wait

I reckon shimano's M970 shifters are beautiful. The action and physical weight of each shifter is perfect. Plus they look just right!

Oh yea... Delta brakes are really a beautiful design and I still think Campags C-Record Gruppo is still one of the prettiest out there, Especially the 1st Gen rear deraillieur

Pupp, do let us know how you get on with your C16R fix offroad. I fixed a Cannondale 1FG several years ago and have really enjoyed it ever since - it makes simple trails a challenge and is fantastic for climbing. Excellent powerslides on gravel too!

Steep downhills are the scary bit - I really want a gravity dropper seatpost, it would make life much easier. So that, at the moment, is the component that would make me go 'oooh'.

Stunning. Reminds me of a Harry Hall my brother had in the 1980s with chromed forks and stays. How does the ride compare to modern bikes?

Hmmm... I'm not sure it will get much use on anything more off-road than a canal tow-path, I'm sticking 650c rims on with some gatorskins or similar road tyres. Really want it for scooting between village pubs and down to the shops etc. Would have ridden it today but for the fact none of the 'bike shops' around here seem to have even heard of 650c tyres let alone stock any. I'll post a pic in a while but looks mean as heck, even if the ground clearance is going to be interesting on bends... may yet need some shorter cranks

That will be most excellent. I have another set of wheels (26") with 1" slicks for the 1FG, looks very mean indeed. I managed to get hold of some 165mm race face turbine cranks a few years ago and have never had clearance issues (with spds). I really fancy squeezing some 700c rims in but it is not so easy to find disk/fixed hubs (I made one up using a Surly Fixxer but it is an expensive way of doing it).

IMHO MTB frames make excellent fixies, much better that old road frames. Lots of standover height, really stiff and high bottom brackets are all good things. They just look better too.
