Comfortable MTB saddle?

I've dusted off my old Scott Comp Racing (from around '98 IIRC) and despite wearing padded shorts, the saddle is really uncomfortable after a few miles.

I could do with a replacement that is not too expensive, under £30 if possible.

Any recommendations?

Go try some in your LBS. A seat that's fine for one person can be awful for the next, only way to find one for you is to actually use a few.

But also, even the best saddle *for you* will be uncomfortable for a while if you've been off the bike for any length of time. You do need to spend some time acclimatising to being back on a bike.
