You guys who do sportives not considered doing audax instead? Seem much better value, and with the epic events, more to work towards? If you have GPS, I struggle to see the point of spending the extra on sportives (closed road events excepted).

i believe the old joke is "sportives are for those who like to pretend they are racing and an audax is for those who like to pretend they're not racing...."

happy to do stage 2 if there is the formation of a "ph" team

I totally agree. It was only 3 years ago that sportives were normally about £15 for a decent length, well marked route (100 - 125 miles) including energy food & drink at various points along the course and tea / coffee & cake at the finish. I know the one above is for charity but £39 for 73 miles (stage 3) on public roads is just taking the piss.

more amusing still is the range of bikes that are labelled as sportives which manufacturers push and the public are seemingly desperate to buy...
