Tyre suggestions please. . . . . . .

While out thrashing around Swinley Forest yesterday I managed to split the sidewall of my rear tyre. Currently my bike is fitted with the stock tyres that it shipped with (FELT THC XC Trail Highway City). These have been OK but I have had the odd ‘whoops apocalypse’ moment on exposed tree roots!

Obviously I need to replace the tyre but am not quite sure what to go with, I have a set of slicks for road riding so the replacement tyres will be solely for use off road. I ride 20-30 miles around Swinley Forest each week which is a mix of hard loose gravel, soft singletrack trails and the odd bit of sand thrown in for good measure.

Any suggestions on what I should go with? I have seen a lot of other riders with Maxxis tyres fitted but I am aware a lot of the leading brands ship with Maxxis fitted as standard. . . .

I have tried quite a few over recent years and have settled on Conti Mountain King 2.2 Protections. They are superb.

They are very light, kevlar reinforced for puncture protection and give excellent grip in all conditions. Also, when riding over trails with a lot of clay in the soil, they don't clog.

For the fashion conscious, they have a nice 'Handmade in Germany' logo on the side

For years I have used a Shwalbe RR/NN combo swapping to a mud tyre for the winter

However this winter I tried a Maxxis High Roller and was impressed at its mud shedding properties
It also rolls so well at the moment Ive left them on

I'm a regular Swinley rider as well in the same situation and just ordered a Maxxis Crossmark for the rear and a Maxxis Advantage for the front. Haven't received them but supposed to be fast rolling tyre just right for the Swinley singletrack.

Will let you know how I get on with them.
