singlespeeding

I had a ride out on my old Raleigh equipe beater of a singlespeed....very early out the door this morning no traffic about.
It was an amazing experience sun just up no wind the thing is just so quite on the move no noisy derailier clattering the thing is just amazing and it is the cheapest bike I have...go figure.
I am almost tempted to do the same to my shed of a MTB

Not sure it'll ever go off road to any extent but loving my C16R fixed, that saw the light of day last weekend... sorted a spare computer onto it yesterday and it's comfortable on 42/17 (on 650c road wheels) up to about 22mph. Possibly a tad short geared but got up everything in a week's riding so far. May try a 44 or 45 tooth front next (be cheaper than White Industries rears). Certainly causes consternation when folk twig what it is

Single speed bikes also seem to be alot lighter - iv got a bog standard Kona Paddy Wagon (lol), and it seems to be alot lighter than my stupidly light carbon road bike.
Not typically. Mechs and derailleurs are very light, at least high end ones; track frames are often not.Have you actually weighed them?
