SW London - West End - Who does it?

Just toying with an idea, and it would involve some daily cycling to West End from SW london area (kingston/richmond), obviously I put the route into road map and it says take the A3, but was wondering what people think is a good route from Kingston area?

And also what kind of average speed I can expect to keep up through London traffic? (I average over 18mph round Richmond park over 3 laps to give an idea of capability).

I do Twickenham to Bond Street:
Through Richmond to Sheen Road
Upper Richmond Road
Queens Road to Lower Richmond Road
Over Putney Bridge and along New Kings Road, Kings Road to Sloane Sq.
Up to Knightsbridge Tube and pop into Hyde Park all the way up the cycle path to the Upper Brook Street exit.

I did Bond Street to Kingston the other day and to avoid traffic went through Richmond Park.
In at Roehampton Gate having cut up from Upper Richmond Road via Priory Lane.

You and pretty much trace the North Bank of the Thames from Putney Bridge into the City along Embankment. I do it in reverse when I go out to Richmond Park from work near St Paul's. I've found it the best way, but there are a couple of big junctions with 4 phases of traffic lights.

You pace round Richmond seems fairly handy, you'll have to tow me round one night...

I commute on a fat slicked MTB and ride in from NW10 to Southbank.

On the way in it's a gradual descent and I manage 15mph-ish.

On the way back it's uphill so 13mph-ish.

So I guess I'd average 14mph on the flat.

(when I started out a year ago I'd be 2mph down on those figures)

Thanks guys, I think the first route suggested fits the bill.

I'm likley to move from Surbiton to Richmond so that would be ideal if I do end up doing this route.

I am in New Malden.

I go through Richmond Park over Hammersmith Bridge and drop into town from the West side.

I find the route very pleasant as there are a lot of bus lanes which means the road for us cyclists are traffic free.

Perhaps the route is not as direct, but it is very pleasant.

Look out for a huuuge fella in a black or a white PH shirt. (Or baked beans.)
