At the end of August me and a mate are going to be riding Lands End to John O Groats for charity. I have bought myself a Specialised Allez to the trip on. Its a great bike, but now need some advice on shoes I am currently using trainers which are really just running trainers. I dont particularly want to have to get cleatless pedals as that is just more money that I dont really have at the moment. Do you have any recomendations for shoes which are less that £50 that have a hard sole?
For that sort of distance, you really would be a lot better off going for clipless pedals, especially for the climbs you'll be doing in the south west. There's a massive difference between being able to pedal full circle and just stomping on the pedals during the downstroke.
They can be had for as little as £20 from CRC http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod... and shoes for £40 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod...
Good luck with the ride.

The pedals and shoes will pay for themselves in terms of making such a long ride bearable!
