Redressing the balance of Karma
Discussion
So last night I went out for a few training laps of Richmond Park with two friends, and to cut a long story short, we had two wrecked inner tubes in less than a mile. It was pretty depressing, and I was going to pack it in and walk home after the second one went, but my mates convinced me to try and beg for a tube (as he had done a few minutes previously), so I stood there at the side of the road holding up my innertube looking pitiful. It was a matter of seconds before someone stopped and handed one over! He even refused to take payment, but I insisted he took a couple of quid to have a beer.
So, two dead tubes, and two new tubes borrowed off complete strangers. Well-done to the wonderful roadies of Richmond Park! I am now heading off to order a couple of innertubes so I can return the favour to anyone should I need to.

I daresay it's good for a lot of reasons, but won't protect against a broken valve.http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/SearchResults.a...

Part of the long story that was cut short was that one of the tubes was killed because the valve stem was ripped out of the rubber.
I have been looking to redress karma for a while now.
Stuck on the side of Mount Tam (home of MTBing) while fixing a flat the inside of my presta valve leapt lemming-like into the abyss next to me.
A 1 hour walk to civilisation beckoned.
Next chap down the hill stops without a word and just hands me his one spare inner tube - refused payment and buggered off.
Finally today I get to redress slightly.
Chap with a flat on my commute making coffee-beans type hand motions as I approach him; looks like he needs to borrow a pump.
5 mins later and we are both on our way.
He said he had been waiting 30mins for someone to stop.
This is at 7am in central London.
So moral of the story is that PROPER roadies and MTBers are gentlemen while commuters mostly aren't...

Got a puncture last night about 5 miles from home.
Had spare tube but it had a short valve, I had deep section carbon wheels on the bike so couldn't pump it up doh (must remember to bring valve extender in future).
Had to walk the 5 miles home (in road shoes
) must have been passed by 20 cyclists and not one bothered to ask if i was alright or needed help.
Over the years I've handed out several tubes to guys in trouble, so karma can go f
k itself.
