Rear Mech Adjustment
Discussion
All,
When 'fine tuning' the rear mech to ensure smoooooth changing, and no cog hopping, do you do this via the shifter adjustment or via the barrel adjustment on the actual mech. I have always done this on the barrel, however colleague suggests that it is far better to adjust at the shifter end of things...
Is there a correct/preferred way?

Order of adjustment for me.
1. Ensure the max and min travel screws are set right.
2. Set both barrel adjusters to about halfway, maybe a bit more screwed in than that.
3. On the smallest cog, ensure the cable is just tight.
4. Use the barrel adjuster on the mech to sort out the indexing when at home.
5. If it needs adjusting while riding use the barrel adjuster on the shifter to sort it out.

Same here, and never have a problem.1. Ensure the max and min travel screws are set right.

HOWEVER, some frames / hangers need one of these applying.

Very useful bit of kit if you own an MTB. Use this and your shifts will be sweet as. Oh and don't buy one, make one. Dead easy to do if you own a welder.
