What forks.... MTB
Discussion
I have a GT Chucker hardtail which I use for trail riding, currently has awful RST Launch forks (100m) but looking to upgrade to something better, with 100 to 120mm max travel. 110mm would be ideal as I'm looking for a little more travel than it has currently. Open to opinions on whether or not 120mm would be a wise move on a bike ideally built for 100mm intended travel!
What would you look at, upto the price of £230 approx?
Cheers

If you could spend a few more quid then these are a bargain for £275.....

That is indeed a Billy Bargain. And damn good forks to boot.http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Home/Product+Detail/...
It is a bargain considering they go down to £247 when you add them to your basket (they're currently doing extra 10% off deal on these).
I ordered some and the total inc next day delivery was £251!! Absolute bargaintastic
The white ones are out of stock but so long as black doesn't look too out of place on your bike what does it matter.

Bloody hell, buy them.
I got Reba Team 120mm Maxle forks for £400 and that was a total bargain.
120mm wont slacken the head angle too much over 100mm, and if you're concerned by that you can run the negative air chamber a little harder, and the forks will sag slightly more into their travel, giving you a really supple 110mm-ish fork.
Love mine for trail riding. The difference between those and cheap RSTs will be colossal.
BTW - Merlin Cycles rock.

Just fitted them this afternoon, what a difference they make. They must be half the weight of the old RST Gila forks too.
As I use the bike for commuting too the remote lock out will come in very, very handy.
Thanks for the link to this MATRS, just what I had been looking for
My only tip for fitting is make sure you measure twice/cut once with the steerer tube. I cut mine a little long and then had a right faff trying to cut another 1/2" off the end

This isn't a problem - you can always add a spacer or 2 on top of the stem (which actually makes your fork more useful if you're ever going to sell it on or move it to another bike with a longer head tube).
The worry would be cutting it too short!
Yep, I could have done that but the bars are at the height I like so thought i'd keep them the same (although I probably wouldn't notice 1/2" extra).
Cutting short is a problem a certain other nameless bike riding PHer managed to do some time ago
If I remember right he had to fork out for a brand new steerer tube.
