How to determine fork steerer type/size?

Hi,

I've just ordered one of these:

for commuting to the station.

I want to fit dropped bars to it, and will maybe require a new stem depending on the fitting/size of the bars.

I was just wondering if there is a way to determine what type of fork steerer the above bike has - as it hasnt arrived yet? Is there something I can go and measure?

From what I've found, it appears that you have a '1 inch steerer' or 1 and 1/8th?

Any help would be much appreciated...

I'd just wait for it to arrive. The parts are all unbranded, best be safe.

when it arrives, would I just measure the diameter of where the fork enters the frame?

I've opted to have the bike delivered boxed rather than built, so I can learn how to do it myself etc...so thats why I was thinking I could order the bars ready for the build...

If the fork's already on, measuring the head tube will be a fiddle as it might flare at the end or have a reinforcing ring etc. You can measure the very top of the steerer where the aheadset top cap will be flush on the top edge - tbh the diameter will probably be written on that anyway, it's like that on mine

The specs state it's an Ahead set configuration, I've only seen these with a 1 1/8th inch steerer. That said, you might need to know the stack height of the original stem so that you can match it.

thanks...so stack height is determined by the measurement of the spacers betwen the stem and the frame?

Stack height is the height between the fork crown and the top cap

it'll be 1 1/8th threadless on that bike. 1 inch threaded steerers are only used on cheap tat these days, which luckily for you does not include (most) carreras

as for the stack height, that is often taken to be either the distance between the top edge of the headtube on the frame and bottom edge of the stem, or between the fork crown and the stem
