intersting point about times of hardships etc people going to bikes. i hope that is not true!!!

i've totally gone off cars since getting my road bike. cars are false idols.

Just watched it on iPlayer, what a great program! I just loved his "round the world" bike with the great big bit of steel plate welded to the steerer tube! guess somewhere on the trip the frame broke??

How true Rob. I've been thinking the same thing for some time. I sell cars for a living, so probably not the best motivator career wise...

I love the fact that his bike will be special as his journey makes each component personal - not just a faceless factory. My bikes don't hold quite the same appeal as I know my roadie was built in Taiwan and my hybrid & mtb are cobbled together by me - hardly a dream build!

I love the fact that he now has a totally bespoke, handbuilt bike which basically cost him £4000. Gravy, the wheelbuilder and the head of Cinelli are part of a dying breed, eh? Eccentric enthusiasts who build superb stuff and love what they do.

I take it this was just a repeat of the program that was previously on a couple of months ago - maybe on BBC4? Was it not called "It's all about the bike"?

I saw it first time round, and am now reading his book, which is good too - although disappointing at the lack of nice glossy photos of the bike and bits:
