Carbon Bottle Cages

I am on the lookout for a set of bottle cages and wondering if carbon ones are really worth it?
Is it worth chasing those few grams which could mean the difference between a new tyre and half worn tyre in comparasion?

Has anyone tried the eBay cheapy ones with any success??

FWIW no, you can get plastic cages that weigh the same. But if you like shiny things then go for it

Have to say I think carbon bottle cages are a bit of a waste of money...if you like the look great but they aren't going to make you faster. Having a crap before you go out would have a bigger effect!

I agree that they might not be worth the extra cash but when you can get a pair of eBay specials for around £25 i am really tempted

I went for a pair of the same, do you have any photos of it fitted? Does it fit a 750ml bottle well?

I use an 800ml SIS water bottle and it fits snug, no pics fitted on the bike though im afraid.

I think this was mentioned on teh otehr thread, but FWIW...

I don't understand the likes of weight weenies, who go for a carbon bottle cage that weighs 5 grams, only to clip in a bottle that's full of water that weighs about a kilo

Would it be any good on a Mountain bike, or does it not hold the bottle tight enough? It's a right PITA losing your bottle half way down a fast descent!

Or in an uphill sprint get a 5mm allen key out and ditch the saddle and seat pin!

Ended up ditching the cages and getting a camelbak for this reason, plus my drinks dont taste of mud anymore

Carbon bottle cages are a waste of time. I have two on my roadie, made by Token. Buying criteria was "what's got the largest expanse of shiny carbon, and is obviously made of carbon" rather than "what's the lightest and skinniest".

Do it, you know you want to!

Made my own out of carbon fibre tube and brackets from old ally cages. At least they are unique.

cheers! I should really get some shots of it in action, but the weather here has been atrocious lately so I have been limited to quick dial in runs and pootling around with my nephew. Plus the best trails are about a 20 minute drive away, damn you urban sprawl!
