Fitting Ultra-Torque BB cups

Hi all,

Just a quicky on this as the instructions given are fairly straight forward, as in screw them in with some Loctite 222 job done. The cups I've got have got some yellow goop on them though:



Should I try and remove that, will it have any effect on the loctite, or should I just get on with it?!

I would assume that the yellow stuff is a screw lock of some sort.

The yellow stuff is patch lock, no loctite required.

According to this:

Loctite 222 is a violet colour, whereas Loctite 085 is yellow.

085 is stronger than 222, but both are designed for disassembly with normal hand tools at normal temperatures.

Thanks guys, there seems to be global confusion about how to fit campag shells as campag themselves have recommended a number of methods over the years. The instructions with mine say hand tight with loctite 222, whereas the instructions on their website (admittedly for the new power-torque) say to torque up with magic expensive tool, no mention of loctite. I did find a post on weightweenies saying to scrape the yellow stuff off and then use 222 which is chemicaly incompatible with the yellow stuff - joy!

Anyway, I've ordered a cheapo Ice Toolz Hollowtech tool which is supposed to fit, so I will go with the yellow goop and a torque wrench. At this rate I'll have the bike ready for 2014
