("the UCI said the concentration found by the laboratory was estimated at 50 picograms - 400 times less than anti-doping laboratories accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) must be able to detect")
If the amount is so small and there is a posibility that it is contamination from food, why have they gone public? Why not wait until there is conclusive evidence?
I think the UCIs honesty about drug issues (while admirable) is actually harming the sport.

To be fair, I get clenbuterol in my food by accident all the time! Or not. I can't imagine many circumstances where this could happen and you'd know about it afterwards. Perhaps he didn't ingest it deliberately, but if that's the case it must surely be a lie to say anything other than, "I don't know how that happened."?Several questions come to mind;
Was he was tested the day before - and was there any trace "contamination"?
Did any of his teammates eat the same food/test positive?
Is the drug being used in a particular fashion that might lead to it being masked, thus leading to only trace quantities being detected?
Mid Tour, you would have thought that all food, especially for the yellow jersey/race favourite, was checked and double checked.

Someone better head down to the boozer and tell Andy!

It would appear that his food was spiked by Terry Thomas (apparently):

They've almost got it right - Eric Sykes always did the actual sabotage. Right now Thomas is hitting Sykes about the head, berating him using such a small amount... http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headline...

It seems to me there are two explanations for this:
1) Food contamination - which carries some credible endorsement

A banned substance which can be used to help lose weight and help breathing, clenbuterol is also known to boost performance by helping to increasing strength.
Although a banned substance, positive tests from clenbuterol have resulted in different outcomes for athletes in the past.
It has been shown in the past that trace elements of the drug found in the human body can be attributed to food contamination. If it is found in larger amounts it usually points to deliberate doping.
Chinese rider Fuyu Li, who races with Lance Armstrong's RadioShack team, was also provisionally suspended after testing positive for clenbuterol in April.
He was later given support by a Dutch anti-doping expert, Douwe de Boer, who said the amount found in his body points "clearly in the direction of a contamination" and that such a low dose would not help his performance.
The levels found in both riders' samples are similar.

AS I understand it from news reports it was Contador's decision to go public. If the amount is so small and there is a posibility that it is contamination from food, why have they gone public? Why not wait until there is conclusive evidence?

Good analysis as always here

That article says "However, it's also mentioned that for some drugs - stimulants, narcotics and B-blockers - it is recommended that WADA labs do not report values below 10% of the MRPL. Clenbuterol does not fall into those classes, and that's why the finding was reported despite falling well below that 10% level"Does that mean that you could take low levels of stimulants, narcotics and B-blockers and get away with it. SO you could have 9% of MRPL (?) of each of these and still be within the guidelines.
Sweet.
