Has anyone done it and if so was it any good?

I'm thinking about getting into shape for next years event and was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions about it?

I did it this year and it was great. Some killer climbs to get up and some boggy moor land to ride over. I did it on my scott ransom and it must of been one of the heaviest bikes there. There was plenty of very light bikes there and some very fit riders. If i do it next year i want a lighter bike and to do more than 5 rides before hand for my training. There were plenty of people on foot with bikes on the ferry but next time we all agreed to take my van over so we could do some sight seeing aswell. A very nice place to ride and a great experience been part of a 1400 strong bike race. Oh start near the front and not at the back like we did :O

Thanks for that. Looks like I'm gonna need to get some training in if I want to do next years!
They've got a promo video on YouTube and it looks like a pretty cool race :-)

Three of my regular riding mates did it this year. One described it as 'b****y, b****y hard' but the superfit youngster (late 40's!) took it in his stride. Based on the training schedule they undertook (and I joined in) I'd say get plenty of climbing in on difficult/loose surfaces.

Some of the climbs were near impossible in the saddle particularly with the volume of riders taking part - hence the advice to get near the front or expect to walk.

Apparently the final mile or so were considered the worst as it was all uphill to the finish.

At least one of them (the youngster!) is going to do it again next year and aiming for a sub 4 hour finish
