I've been pushing up the miles lately (37 yesterday), the pounds keep dropping off and I'm a happy bunny, but the hamstring behind my left knee is feeling a little bit tender. Just slightly achey, not painful. The other muscles in my legs feel absolutely fine, not tired at all.

I'm therefore not riding today, but how long is reasonable before I go out again? A day off, or more? I don't do any stretching exercises, I just start off slow and end slow.

For me I find stretching exercises more and more important as the years turn. few stretches both before and after the ride and then take it easy for the first and last few minutes each time.

If it's just a little tender I would not necessarily stop riding but I would try and go for either a slightly easier ride or just alter your style a bit to keep a nice high cadence and not too much big gear pushing.

I think it is very important for cyclists to stretch, post ride ,

I wouldnt stretch a cold muscle before the ride though .
