That's criminal. Is there still trail conflict out there or is it localised? I find that on the whole most trail users, whether on two legs or four, are friendly enough, it's certainly not like it used to be around here. This person needs to be found. Police involved?

want a bet. We've had reports of people putting nails through planks of wood and leaving them upturned along byways in puddles.

Sure it might inconvenience the 4x4 guys and be pretty dangerous for the bikes (the intended targets) but what if a horse stood on it?

We often mark horse enduro routes and many a time come back on a sunday to find the markers moved in such a way as to direct the horses and riders to hazards.

I'd be more inclided the think its another crackpot rambler, I've personally seen gardening twine strung between trees at head height and read loads of other accounts of people leaving things to 'teach a lesson' to anyone who dares use the countryside for anything that they don't agree with, which is basically anything but rambling.

There's a rambling nutcase who lives near me. He's errected large and expensive/offcial looking signs 'banning' cycles from a farm road that goes past his drive, quoting some fiction legal act - he tried to enforce it once by driving his car into me. Lovelly chap.

I've seen fishing wire strung at head height at contested areas. I also dislocated a thumb after coming off thanks to some kind soul leaving a branch across a trail where it was hidden from view until you were on top of it.

TBF though, MTB'ers really don't do themselves any favours sometimes, having been subject to a fly-bys when out walking.

It's a risk of the hobby I'm afraid.

Was this vandalism reported to the police? It seems the intent is to inflict harm on users of the bridge otherwise it would have just been taken down.

We have encountered a few of the militant branch of the ramblers assoc. Idiots one and all! We usually try and be as friendly as possible with people we meet on the trails and generally bad feeling is avoided with a friendly "hello!"

Saying that there are some awfully rude and nasty inbred gits out there and it is not so long I was confronted with the "your sort are all the same!". When I asked what sort is that? his wife tried to usher him away like he was going to take a swing at me!!! for riding a bike on a public trail??

Still better on a trail than on a road.

unfortunately us 4x4 lot have been saying to all and sundry that use byways, that these problems are getting more and more acute.

Part of it is the condensing of legal trails that are used by many people- its also a militant thing on the part of many groups. Ramblers are y far the worst that i have come across
