Wilier Izoard XP Xenon

All,

After your views really on the above bike. I've been looking for a road bike for a couple of weeks and have come across this. Any good / bad feedback would be appreciated.

Its going to be my first road bike in a number of years - MB for a long time but want to get back on the road for a bit

Very nice looking bike with a budget groupset.

Alternatively if you like the looks, you could get a very similar looking Ribble Sportive or Gran Fondo with Campag Centaur & carbon wheels for slightly less:

serriously, we could list hundreds of alternatives, but really most bikes will be very similar, carbon, ultegra/xenon and a few flash bits....

but have a look at the ridley orion too as its another good leftishfield choice...

I've just picked up a Wilier Izoard XP R5, and although I've only been out on a short set up ride, I have to say, I love it.

Compared to my old Trek 1.2 everything, and I mean everything feels soooo much better. I'm really looking forward to my first proper ride out, just waiting for the snow to clear and dry up (hopefully that'll be tomorrow morning)

I managed to get a deal on mine, a 2011 bike, and paid £50 more for the R5 than the Xenon from my LBS, so there are deals out there to be done.

Never mind the bike discussion. Off topic, I know, but I've just bought a Merida Road Race HFS 905-com in White/Black/Red, and would LOVE to know where you got those tyres, and what Make/Model/Size they are. They look Fab on your bike, and would really set my Merida off perfectly.

So close - Vittoria Rubino Pros (from ebay) in white/white/black.


I thought the black centre tread would make the tyres look less dirty out on the road than all white tread on the Zaffiros and used a white wall tyre pen (from ebay) on the side walls to give them a less porous easier to clean coating.

Love the Izoard by the way, the whole XP Xenon bike is only £100 more than the 2010 Izoard frame and forks.

Look forward to pics of the Merida & hopefully XP in the 'show your bike off' thread!

Many thanks for your comments. I think I'll take the plunge after checking one out in a local lbs. They did say that they cannot do anything on the price but will throw in 10% of the bike price in parts eg pedals shoes etc. Does this seem reasonable

of course they can do something on price! whats more important though, 10% of fre stuff or a cash discount? its the end of the year and they want rid of old stuff....

well, thanks for all your help everyone. I finally got round to purchasing a bike and after quite a lot of testing, found a 2010 izoard with a centaur groupset, for less than the base spec one so very happy. looking forward to daylight when I can try it out!

Nice one - knew I'd seen a 2010 with Centaur on offer somewhere but couldn't remember where!

Great move, that is one of my favorite bikes from last year, much better groupset and a nicer frame overall, perfect colourscheme aswell!

depends on your budget but if you dont have to go to ribble, merlin cycles will make you pretty much anything you as for and a pair of tiagra hubs on mavic open pro rims will do you for a good few years and cost around £125. from ribble i would say mavic aksiums as i have no knowledge of weinmenn rims in their hanbuilt section. avoid prolite and the low end easton stuff.

I bought one of fleabay last year and they are very good bikes IMO. If it has the standard Racing 5's dont be too quick to change them as they suit the bike very well. However in saying that some slighter more zippy wheels do wonders! Oh and if it has the standard wilier branded tyres swap them, they are ste.

The wheels on my Ribble are Halo Mercurys - but bought from for £195 in a sale from Harry Hall. Excellent value for 1625g and they've coped with my 15st no prob. Plenty of other great Mavic, Fulcrum & Shimano deals from Merlin & Ribble right now.
