my first ride out and puncture
Discussion
thought I had better get out on my new ribble audax bike in readiness for my 200km audax ride end of March.
an 18 mile ride would be a good start and only has 4 left turns.
so off I set, thought better not use the clip in just a gentle ride to get me used to the bike.
thought I was having good progress did 14 miles in about 70min with a couple of quick stops to take on water,
never tried to drink and ride at same time (this is the first time one a bike for about 20 years)
and then disaster a puncture, never mind i was prepared i bought a deluxe inflation kit (with a co2 inflator) and spare inner tubes as i thought this would happen, so got the tyre off (ok i nipped the tube) repaired the tube ( never packed a spare inner tube see below) using the inflator to blow up the tyre to find the hole, took the tyre off and ran my fingers around found a piece of glass so removed that before replacing the tyre and tube,
and the realized that I had run out of co2 so could not inflate the tyre, i had removed the other co2 cartridges from the seat bag in order to get my phone, multi tool and choc bar in.
so I had to push the bike 4.4 mile home, (I only have a few people who i can call and as it was new years day i did not want anyone to come out if they had been on the booze last night)
I enjoyed my ride out, hills are a killer and something i am having to get used too.
I need to buy a proper pump and not some fancy co2 inflator,
any recommendations for a decent tyre more resistant to punctures, and do gel inner tubes help.

I personally do not like Gel inner tubes (such as slime) because, despite only being 4oz of liquid I feel they do slow you down when pushing off.
I personally use these http://www.simpsoncycles.co.uk/product.php/2605/al...
They are great! Ive ridden through glass and other road-side debris and (touch wood) i've never had a puncture! They are Kevlar lined (yep, the same stuff thats used in bullet proof vests!) They are pretty quick at pushing off, but I find they come into their own at higher speeds.
