Another (potential) what bike

Its been suggested, by Mrs PB no less, that I sell the Liberty and get an MX5. So what, put that in GG, I hear you say. True enough, but the selling of one and purchasing of the other will probably free up a bit of cash, potentially enough to get a replacement/companion for my beloved 575. The exact amount of cash is unknown, but if I play this right I could get both car and bike with no extra outlay, and the bank balance remains as (un)healthy as ever.

So, its been a while since I was looking, what's out there? Easily accessible brands are Spesh, Giant, Kona, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Cannondale, and a few others, but what, in the same vein (or is that, vain?) as the 575 is worth going the extra km for? Commencal? Orange?

To give you some idea of the potential budget, a new 575 to the same spec as mine would be about AU$6-7000, and I'd be looking at a bit less than that - the Liberty should sell for about AU$14k and a tidy Mk1 MX5 should set me back about AU$8k. Style of riding is XC/AM - wouldn't look at anything with more travel than the Yeti, but would consider less. Not after HT - have an XTC that covers that base for me right now.

Yes, I know I haven't secured the funds yet, and yes, I know I'm a lucky bstard at even being able to consider such a purchase - but without a plan I have nothing to aim for

Given the 575, I'll suggest something a bit leftfield and given the critiera, I think the Turner Flux is the tool for the job.

Ah, Turner, forgot about those. Good call, had a go on a 5-Spot some years ago, should be worth nosing around for a test ride.

I have heard that the commencal frames are nice, but have a worryingly frequent habit of breaking. They are not very strong.

Hmm will keep an eye on this!

Possibly buying a new (or slightly used ) fully and intrested in what may come up here, budget is a little lower ($5k nz tops)

A quick squiz suggests about AU$7-8k - poss a bit over the budget, but maybe worth looking for an ex-demo as its still a bit left'ish over here.

I didn't even leave any clues or hints. Maybe the thought-recording implant gave the game away. Had found a few tidy ex-demo bikes around too. No Turners though.

I rode a couple of Turners when auditioning my current steed. Great bikes - absolutely hated them, couldnt wait to give them back....
