Mag trainers with hybrids

Question:

I've got a Specialized Crosstrail Elite (2010 model).

I've also got a spare rear wheel.

If I put a road tyre on the spare wheel, could I then use the bike with a mag trainer, so I can use it as an alternative to a normal exercise bike?

Sorry if that's a numpty question, this whole pedal thing's new to me.

No problem doing that at all. I had a specialised armadillo tyre on my MTB rear wheel for turbo use last winter and it was fine. I would suggest that a turbo training specific tyre is probably a better idea as they run quieter, and I did get some fine black powder coming off mine...
