MTB Sat Nav

[Four Litre]

Anyone know of a decent and worthwhile satnav for a MTB, I want to use this for Off Road use only, so pointless going for something that tells me how to navigate the local one way system?

Is there such a device that contains the ordinance survey maps with trails etc???

Any help appreciated. Somebody mentioned the Garmin 800 but the pictures on the web just show it using roads...?

I use the GPS tracking device on my phone, I really don't need the distraction of turn by turn instructions on the bike, and the basic OpenStreetMap on the sports tracker app is generally detailed enough to get home if I've wondered in to a new area and not sure where I am, if you were exploring or off road touring on pre set routes I can see the advantages though of having the garmin with the preloaded OS explorer 1:25000 maps. There is a new consumer online portal coming in the next few weeks from OS for the leisure market but I'm not sure what affiliations garmin or anyone else will have with that in order to support it.

Thought I'd resurrect this rather than start a new thread. Basically the same question as the OP but I also want road mapping to I can stick it on the motorbike occasionally as well. I started reading Garmins site and read about the 510 and it using dual satellite systems GPS & GLOSNASS and thought great idea for when in forests, but then no maps - so assumed the 810 would be the choice but then read only GPS, is there a system available that uses both systems, gets OS maps, can be used as a conventional sat nav, gives a bit of fitness data like the 510?

Surely if you're going sufficiently off-road that you might get lost, you might as well take the real OS map with you?

Garmin Dakota, I have been using one for a couple of years and found it great - you can download maps as and when you need them to a scale that will be of use when you are off road, but that's because it is a hand held navigation device rather than a bike computer that also navigates. That said it does have the capability of pairing with ANT+ devices and will record tracks etc.

I use the Garmin 800 off road and its very good. I download routes that other users have uploaded to explore new routes etc. The version I have has the Ordnance Survey Maps.

Another vote for the Garmin 800, full OS maps showing Byeways and Bridleways. Managed to get me around 47 KMs of Wilstshire countryside yesterday.

I use a Bryton Rider 50 and my colleague uses the OS version of it. We love them!

Gone for the 800 with OS maps :-) good bit cheaper than the 810 and not much useful difference between them.

How about viewranger? I've pretty much got the entire uk os maps in my phone now. If you set up a route in it it will bleep at you to guide you around although I must say I've never used that functionality I just stop for s drink and have a look at the phone to check I'm on coarse.
