Aussie Winternationals this weekend...pro-mod 5s!!!!
Discussion
Looking good at Tierp, slightly jealous!!!! However being stuck at home means I can follow more than one event so:
At the opposite pole another major meeting, Ipswich Raceway near Brisbane is holding the Castrol Edge Winternationals this weekend.
Look at these Top Doorslammer (pro-mod) Q1 numbers:
1 4 PETER KAPIRIS 5.859 246.44 246.44
2 846 JOHN ZAPPIA 5.914 234.78 234.78
3 67 MARK BELLERI 5.957 244.60 244.60
4 2639 BEN BRAY 6.161 231.04 231.04
5 76 GARY PHILLIPS 6.175 239.23 239.23
6 1113 6.195 226.54 226.54
7 3525 SCOTT MACLEAN 6.231 230.96 230.96
8 1629 MURRAY O'CONNOR 6.246 205.88 205.88
9 415 ANDREW SUTTON 6.272 230.49 230.49
10 2299 DANIEL GREGORINI 6.29O 230.25 230.25
11 167 STUART BISHOP 6.297 229.51 229.51
12 3319 RUSS PAVEY 6.623 212.73 212.73
13 1693 ROBIN JUDD 6.762 239.48 239.48
14 590 MAURICE FABIETTI 6.866 148.22 148.22
15 2076 PHIL GLENDENNING 7.783 132.43 132.43
16 4226 RINO D'ALFONSO 10.102 89.57 89.57
Top Fuel features 'The Pom' Steve Read who may be the same guy who raced at Santa Pod when I were a lad (Juara ?).
It was meant to feature Corey Mac from the US but looks like he hasn't made it so only 7 entrants.
The entry list is maybe half of what Tierp has, TF is over 1320.

Top doorslammer has totaly different rules to pro mod
Jon c
it says in the post that those numbers were after Q1
Its realy not unusual for the bump to be that high at most meetings after q1
Main event pro mod Q1 bump spot 11.22
Tierp 7.38
means nothing

Thanks I stand corrected.
Out of interest, can anyone point out the biggest differences?
The biggest difference is the supercharger, the Aussies can use a much more efficient screw blower as opposed to a high helix roots type that pro modified's have. Twin plug heads are legal too so they're effectively methanol dragster or funny car engines. The extra power can be a bit of a hindrance due to the fact they still have suspension, it's difficult to get all that power to the track so they often have to pull massive amounts of ignition timing out away from the line to aid traction. Coupled with the hot and humid climate that's why the et and speeds aren't always as stellar as you'd imagine given the extra freedom in the rules.Out of interest, can anyone point out the biggest differences?
Thanks for the good info gents.
Done a bit of swotting on Top Doorslammers as a follow up, impressive class!
Seems like an Aussie thing but noticed racers from Sweden, NZ, Canada, the US and even one here in the UK. I have seen them race but not here, clumsily mistaking them for a pro-mod variant/equivalent, that class not being present at the time.
To take the liberty of actually asking - has the class or any of its members ever been featured at a UK event?
Relevant or at least civil answers only please! In the unlikely
event of immature goading from any megalomaniac minorities such a response will be suitably ignored.
I thank you.

I don't think so I have nothing on record. Done a bit of swotting on Top Doorslammers as a follow up, impressive class!

i think youll find that a lot of the swedish pm guys also race TD at times and are members of the swedish top doorslammer association, i know the lindahl bros lindberg bros Per Svedberg freddie Adam F ect all have contested TD rounds in scandinavia at times,
its never been run here with the looser rule base it would probably be a better deal than the current pm rules for domestic drivers to go fast, the avarege et is higher and would cirtainly suit mst of the low budget british guys a lot more than the constant updating thast involved in FIA pro mod,
the two clases survive side by side in sweden so why not here, there are turbo cars screw blown smallblocks autos and clutch, home built cars pro built cars a place for everyone to strut their stuff,
if you have to costantly update to compete in fia pro mod and dont do any of the tour its unnesacary expence, but of cource youd have to comply to run the two FIA rounds here,
the time will come where the FIA deal will be at the expence of the MSA champoinship Andy R isnt at the summernats as he will have his car in sweden for finland so its started, the time will come when you have to make the choice FIA only of MSA only,
uf you have to seperate the classes you may as well seperate the classes properly I personaly think a TD style series woiuld be more affordable for most in these dismal times
ok have a field day with that and dont bother commenting on the typos i know its not my strongpoint

@ Wicked Fish:
Thanks for this further insight, I'm beginning to wonder how I've overlooked TD for so long.
Pro-Mod is truly a great class too and a worthy drag racing success story. From your explanations it'd be nice to see TD emerge in the same way here too, as a complimentary class maybe. If it gave more people the chance to run/save cash it would be no bad thing of course. But with a higher profile and more builds maybe it would also attract similar regulation attention in the long run...who knows???
